Mrs. Willie Lou (Carter) Rogers was born June 29, 1932 to the late Sylvester and Lily B. Carter in Cordova, Tennessee. On May 26, 2022, God decided that he needed Willie Lou’s bright light more and she transitioned peacefully surrounded by family.
Willie Lou, known to many as a prayerful warrior, confessed her faith to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Morning Chapel Missionary Church in Cordova, TN.
On April 17, 1956, Willie Lou united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. James Rogers at the Courthouse in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Their union lasted 38 years.
Willie Lou, was known for her kind loving heart. She always welcomed you into her home. With that welcome came laughter, fun, singing, dancing, and very powerful words of wisdom. A favorite was “give me my flowers while I’m still alive.” She loved gardening and flowers, which were the hallmark of her yard in the Bethel Grove subdivision.
Willie Lou attended Cordova Elementary School during a time period in the 1930s & 40’s when education was often, not an option for her family of hard working strong farmers. However, learning was important to her and she always stressed to her children “Study and get a good education.” She would say “I have Mother Wit, but you can have both.”
Willie Lou was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sons; McArthur Carter, Steve Rogers, and her brothers, Sylvester Carter, Jr., Willie Lee Carter, Jimmie Carter, Robbie Carter, Alma Carter, Stander Carter, Frank Carter; Sisters, Leila Houston and Bessie B. Carter.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Margaret Walker, Tommy Carter, Delois (Walter) Butler, Eddie Rogers (Josephine), Peggy (Phillip) Ramson, Marilyn (Donald) Williams, David Rogers; step-daughter, Wilma Jane Rooks, all of Memphis. Sister-n-laws, Mrs. Ozell Carter, Mrs. Estelle Carter, and Mrs. Carrie Lurry. Special friend, Anthony Owens. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
