Obituaries
Thomas Edward Jackson was born on August 14, 1953 in Memphis, Tennessee. Thomas was the fifth of six children born to William and Arrie Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings: Evelyn, Michael, and William “Bill”, his son, Patrick, and niece, Tonya. On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Thomas departed this life, having professed his faith in Jesus Christ at a young age, he was welcomed into eternal rest with the Lord.
As boy Thomas was a creative albeit mischievous child. He was always inventing things. His mother often said he was going to be the President. He was very bright and always had to outwit his older brothers. He created his own special “survival techniques”, as he became the ultimate prankster. He was a proud Cobra from Carver High School where he played football. However, woodwork and mechanical drawing were his real interests, and because he was born into a family of carpenters, the skills came naturally. He attended Tennessee State University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering. He went on to receive his teaching certification and began his career as an educator of industrial arts with Memphis non-profit W.A.G.E.S. (Women and Girls Educational Services), which empowered women and girls in non-traditional roles. He ultimately went on to serve as a teacher with Memphis Shelby County Schools for over 30 years. Aside from being a caring teacher, he also coached middle and high school football. The final years of his career were spent at the Shrine School, serving students with multiple disabilities and dual diagnosis. Beyond his professional pursuits, he volunteered with the Big Brothers organization and sang in the church choir.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; three adult children: Bryan (Jalani), Tiffany (Tommy), and Tara; two sisters: Eleanor Jackson and Beverly Robinson; sister-in-law, Hattie Jackson; brother-in-law, Tony Carter; grandchildren: Jessica, Jordyn, Tamia, Jada, and Ava; nieces and nephews: Linwood, James, Janet, Joyce, Tarsha, Tameka, Andre, Pasia-Ari, and Whitney; and a host of family and friends who will cherish his memory.
