Obituary for Richard Waddell
Richard Waddell, 64, died July 30, 2018.
Mr. Richard Waddell was born October 06, 1953 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Evelyn Waddell and Silas C. Long, Jr. On Monday, July 30, 2018, the Lord called Richard home to rest. He was the third child of three children. Richard was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Waddell and Isaac Lee Waddell.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. Richard united with New Salem M.B. Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Frank E. Ray, Sr. He was a faithful member at New Salem M.B. Church
until his health failed.
Richard graduated from Douglass High School-Memphis, Tennessee in 1972. After serving in the United States Army-MOS Bravo 63 Charlie and receiving an Honorable discharge in 1975, Richard attended Shelby State Community College (Southwest Community College). He graduated from Memphis Fire Academy in 1977. He worked for the City of Memphis Fire Department in the capacity of Private, EMT, and Lieutenant. Richard was stationed at Station #30, Truck 12-C as Lieutenant until he retired on October 15, 2006. Richard was a passionate member of the Memphis Tennessee FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Task Force and Pioneer Fire Fighters Association. He formed lifelong professional and friendships during his career.
Richard loved reading and sports. He participated in football and track/field at Douglass High School-Memphis, Tennessee. Richard was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Richard leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, LaToya Waddell, Felisha Brownlee, and Sharonda Waddell; granddaughters, Brittany Waddell and Morgan Davis; uncles, Arthur Waddell and Ceola Waddell, Sr.; aunts, Edna Waddell, Diane Waddell, and Paralee Long; sister-in-law, Ruthie Waddell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, to treasure his memories are his two valued friends, Tommy Davis and Rudy Adam.
