Obituary for Ray Davis
Ray Davis was born in Erwin, TN and graduated from Unicoi County High School in 1957, where he was class president and drum major of the marching band. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Marine Corp Reserve and received an honorable discharge at tours end.
A graduate of Mercer University’s School of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Ray was a licensed pharmacist in both the states of Georgia and Tennessee. He had been a partner in the Posey-Davis Pharmacy on Poplar Avenue in Germantown, Tn., where the First Tennessee Bank is located until it was closed in 1971. He later owned a full-service pharmacy called Ray Davis Prescription Shop on Germantown Road for ten years, before joining Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tn. where he retired after twenty years of employment. Ray thoroughly enjoyed being out on the hospital floors with fellow staff and visiting patients.
Ray served as an alderman in the City of Germantown from 1978-1982 and had earlier served as President of the Germantown Civic Club. He had also been an active member of the Germantown Charity Horse Show Association, as well as both the Kiwanis Club and Lion’s Club for many years.
He was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee and had an amazing ability to recall historical facts about all sports. Ray loved flying as a private pilot and indulged in many hobbies centered around the tools and skills of shop work. Ray loved many genres of music, played the trombone, and read extensively- mostly history books and bible studies. After retirement, he traveled extensively throughout the U.S., as well as the Orient and Europe. Ray valued education and was a life-long learner. His generosity was an incredible legacy.
Ray was preceeded in death by his sister Marie Davis Bryant, a long-time resident of Marietta, Georgia. He is survived by his wife Wanda Elizabeth McCright Davis also a Germantown resident, after 56 years of marriage. A daughter, Wendy Michelle Davis Willis and son-in-law Mark Alexander Willis, both UT graduates and residents of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. Two grand-daughters, Kendall Ashley Willis and Meg Michelle Willis, also residents of Peachtree Corners, GA., as well as 5 nephews, 1 niece and many cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity Worship Center – McVay Gardens of Germantown United Methodist Church, 2331 South Germantown Road, Germantown, Tn. 38138, where Ray was a member since 1971, on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the GUMC Chapel. Inurnment will immediately follow at the Columbarium on the same property. Visitation will be prior to the service and immediately following.

In lieu of flowers which cannot be used at the service, the family requests any gifts/memorials be sent to: Germantown United Methodist Church, designate Ray Davis-pastor’s discretionary fund.
