Lucille Matthews was born July 22, 1928 to Johanna Hayes and Robert Matthews. Was united in holy matrimony with Harvey Richmond Sr. on May,10 1947. They had a strong marital union until the Lord called him home in March 2014. Preceding her in death were three daughters: Clara Richmond-Lane, Betty Richmond-Bailey and Lynn Richmond.
Madea, Biggie or Big Momma were terms or endearment used by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and “neighborhood” children. She knew, loved and nurtured many of her children’s friends who bordered the South Memphis, Latham and Bond street area who also called her Madea.
Lucille “Madea” lived in the same house and South Memphis neighborhood for more than 50 years.
She worked many years at Methodist Central Hospital in housekeeping and as a nurse assistant until she decided to devote her time and love to being a stay at home mom and wife. Among her many civic activities were: 15 years of raising money for the March of Dimes Organization and serving as a precinct poll worker for countless election years within her community at Gaston Community Center.
Mrs. Lucille Richmond leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Robert Matthews, Harvey Richmond Jr and Hal Richmond; one daughter Theresa Richmond-Bell. A host of grandchildren (23), great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, one nephew, other family and friends.
