Reflection of Life
Born on May 15, 1943, Ms. Linda Jean Thomas began her life in Carthage, MS. Upon marriage she moved to Brooklyn, NY and eventually, to Chicago, IL before relocating to Memphis, TN. A few years ago, Ms. Linda moved to Olive Branch, MS to be with her daughter, Loretta Westbrook, where she remained until departing this life. As we reflect on her life, we’re reminded that even at a very young age, Ms. Linda experienced many difficult challenges; but with incredible strength and divine grace, she survived them all. These challenges culminated in a silver lining; they pointed Ms. Linda to the cross where she came to know Jesus Christ as her savior.
Ms. Linda was no stranger to the workforce and enjoyed careers in hospitality, distribution and home healthcare. She was a skillful cook and an excellent baker. In fact, her daughter Loretta, affectionately called her sugar momma because of her love for all things sweet. Ms. Linda is remembered for many life lessons. Her children especially value her lessons on etiquette; the value of hard work and servanthood.
On Wednesday, December 26, 2018, Ms. Linda Jean Thomas went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to remember her life, three sisters, Carolyn Nash (James), Chicago, IL; Diane Walters, Sweetie Griffin; two brothers, James “Sony” Griffin, Jackson, MS; Jacob Nelson; four daughters, Wanda Griffin, Kissimmee FL; Brenda Pettway, Milwaukee, WI; Linda Daniels, Mobile, AL; Loretta Westbrook (Arthur), Olive Branch, MS; one son, Timothy Pettway (Michelle), Chicago, IL and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Never Goodbye
Momma, I’m not saying goodbye because I know you’re not really gone. Though I cannot see you, I know that you are seeing a better life in a better place. For now, I’ll say “see you later” because in time, I know, we’ll meet again. Timothy Pettway
I’ll Never Forget
I’ve learned many life lessons along the way but none so great as the one’s I learned from you. Your lessons on serving others literally changed my life. Thank you for helping me discover the power of love and forgiveness. It is because of you that I now understand what is truly valuable and worth living for. I’ll never forget what you taught me.
