Helene Vernice Ballard was born October 12, 1953 in Memphis, TN to the late Mattie Wallace and Cato Howard.
Helene was a faithful member of First Baptist Mt. Olive where she was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend N.A. Crawford. She sung in the choir and sat on the mother board until her health failed. Even then, in her trust and belief in Jesus Christ never wavered.
Helene was a loud and proud member of the 1971 Class of Douglas High School, home of the Red Devils. For many years, she was a cook for several different restaurants. She was an excellent cook and people will always remember her for her spaghetti & chicken and dressing.
On Thursday, November 22, 2018, Helene unexpectedly departed this life to be with the lord. She is preceded in death by her mother Mattie Wallace, father Cato Howard, sister Shirley Bryant, her grandson Emmanuel, EJ, Wallace, two uncles Andrew Marshall & James Dennis, and her grandmother that she adored, Nora Willis.
Her memory will be cherished by her loving and devoted husband of 31 years, Pete Ballard; three children: Catonyce Hall, Kevin Wallace (Lisa), and Constance Wallace; one brother: Lorenzo “Sweet Lo” Brown, Sr., nine grandchildren: Kevin Scurlock (Kacie), Ashley Wallace, Rapheal Hall, Octavious Murphy, Emone’ Wallace, Renae Hall, Alexis Mitchell, Carrington Cunningham, Kennedi Wallace; one aunt: Sandra Dennis, one God-daughter: Linda Clayton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
