Obituary for Gloria Margaret Keirce
Gloria Margaret Keirce, 87, passed away on June 6, 2016 in Memphis, Tennessee. Gloria was born in Detroit, Michigan, the only child of William and Margaret Bodnar. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Margaret and Joseph Chelsea, and her grandparents, Rose and James Sabo. She graduated from MacKenzie High School in 1946 and worked as a salesperson in the cosmetics department of Sam’s Department Store and then for General Motors as a secretary.
In 1945 Gloria met the love of her life, Clifford John Keirce, while he was on leave with the U.S. Navy. They married in 1948 and had 4 children. The family lived in the Detroit area with Gloria as their loving and nurturing mother.
Gloria and Clifford retired to Florida in 1984 where she played golf and participated in several women’s organizations. She was an avid card player, loved to read and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Gloria and Clifford enjoyed the companionship of many friends who had also moved to Florida from the Detroit area. Gloria was always a gracious hostess and loved being involved in all of her activities.
Gloria and Clifford also travelled quite extensively, visiting Europe and going on cruises. Gloria treasured her collection of Lladro figurines which she acquired on her travels.
In December of 2013 Gloria and Clifford moved to Memphis to be closer to family.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Clifford; four children and spouses, Gary Keirce (Sue) of Collierville, TN, Claudia Myles (Rich) of Hudson, OH, Carolyn Andreis (Bob) of Saline, MI and Clifford Keirce (Debra) of Ashburn, VA; 12 grandchildren and spouses, Kristen Keirce Corrigan (Jason), Jennifer Keirce, Kevin Keirce, Lauren Myles, Heather Myles Bortnik (Luke), Sean Andreis, Caitlyn Andreis, Michael Andreis, Brandon Andreis, Connor Keirce, Evan Keirce and Shannon Keirce and 4 great-grandchildren, Alyssa Wahlke, Tyler Corrigan, Evelyn Bortnik, and Lila Bortnik.
No services are planned. A private interment will be at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee.
