Glenora Payne was born on July 14, 1939 to the late William (Shine) and Glennie Brooks in Enid, MS. In 1960 she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Frank Payne Sr. From this union was born two sons Frank, Jr. and the late Eric Payne. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 57 years and a great mother to her two sons.
In 1960 Mother Glenora Payne gave her life to Christ at Speed Street Church of God in Christ and served faithfully leading her family and many other people to the Lord. She later joined St. James COGIC under the leadership of Supt. Elmo Randolph, and was appointed Church Mother. She was a faithful and dedicated member who served wholeheartedly for more than 30 years in the following capacities: Choir member, Usher, Deaconess, Teacher in the Sunday School/Bible Band, Christian Women’s Council President and Church Mother. She and her husband, the Late Deacon Frank Payne were known for their faithfulness, wise counsel, and were great examples to all. In 2014, Mother Payne joined Grace Temple Ministries COGIC under Pastor Thomas Braden and after moving to Florida she was pastored by Bishop George Bailey. Mother Payne possessed a quiet and gentle spirit, was always easy to be entreated, and was an outstanding example to many women by the holy life she lived. She truly loved God and her family; she was a woman of prayer, and a strong believer in faith.
God called Mother Payne home on November 6, 2018. She was preceded in death by her son Eric Payne and her husband Frank Payne Sr., Twoy Brooks, Willeva Brooks Williams (Clarence), Ethel Brooks Williams (James), B O Brooks (Lucille), Essie Maude Brooks (Willie), Chester Brooks (Bernell), Perry B Brooks (Theora) Ruby Nieal Brooks Cozy (Alonzo), Velma Brooks Oliver (James) and Elmer Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memory: Frank Payne, Jr. (Latonya Payne), Three sisters: Vera Brooks Momon (Clayborn), Lena Brooks Payne (Jesse), Elizabeth Brooks Wirt (David), Seven grandchildren: Laquita, Latosha, Brittani Kee (Zhahquan), Kelsie, Kamryn, Jaylyn, Dekarii, Four great grandchildren: Dominique, DeAndre, Desirae, Kashton and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
