Obituary for George F. Charlton
George F. Charlton, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2018, in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 74 after losing a battle with cancer.
George is survived by his children, Michael (Heather) Charlton and Catherine (Terry) Arwood; step-children, Lynn (Bruce) Lee, Robert (Deborah) Price, and Randy Price; grandchildren, Paulina Gatete, Gervais Dylan Gatete, Alexander Charlton, and Evelyn Charlton; and sisters Diane and Karen. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; parents George Franklin and Ester Catherine Charlton; and son, John David Charlton.
George was born on April 13, 1944 in San Luis Opispo, California. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1969 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked with employers such as Cleo, Inc., Poulan/Weedeater, and Louisiana State University as a Programmer/Analyst. George served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and retired from the Army Reserves in 1996 after a combined 29 years of service at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was activated in 1990 to support Desert Shield and received an Army Commendation Medal from Ft. Polk. George proudly supported the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 684 for over three years, serving as Quartermaster and Adjutant.
Memorial services will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, and Bossier City, Louisiana. Details to follow.
