Obituary for Gary D. Callicutt
Gary D. Callicutt passed into heaven on September 26, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Millie Callicutt, loving father to daughters Angela and Teresa, grandfather to Sophia and Anthony, and stepfather to Robert (Moneta) and Stephen (Tammy) Salemme. He was predeceased by his first wife, Karen Lendermon.

Gary was born in Memphis, TN, to Dillard and Mary (Knight) Callicutt. After overcoming a childhood of poverty and occasional homelessness, he managed to put himself through college, finishing his BA in accounting his first three years, and MBA his fourth year at Memphis State University. He owned and operated Gary Callicutt Accounting and Tax Service for decades.

Gary had the spirit of a teacher. He taught classes at Mississippi State University and Dyersburg State Technical College. He taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at several Memphis-area churches. He taught Reading and English Comprehension at a men's prison in Memphis, TN. Because of the scope of his knowledge, he was a sought-after mentor, and loved to help anyone who would approach him, be it about accounting, astronomy, photography, or Scripture.

He was also a tenacious fighter, battling liver cancer for nearly four years. His legacy of love, faithfulness, and strength will endure in the lives of all those whom he touched, just as his spirit endures in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared through the Tribute Wall at: https://www.serenityfuneralhomememphis.com/obituaries/Gary-Callicutt?obId=3351415#/celebrationWall

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations in his name be made to Memphis Astronomical Society.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018, with visitation at 11 a.m. and memorial service at 12 noon at Serenity Funeral Home. Family will receive friends immediately afterward at the Serenity Funeral Home.

Private family scattering of ashes will take place at a future date.
