Eddie Darrough Sr, age 71, formerly of Flint, Michigan passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto in Southaven, Mississippi.
Eddie was born December 25, 1946 in Rison, Arkansas to Osborn and Sallie Lewis-Darrough. He graduated from Bradley County High School, Warren, Arkansas, where he played baseball as a second baseman and right fielder. Eddie was part of a gospel group, the Zion Travelers of Rison, Arkansas. He loved playing basketball and watching the NBA games; his favorite team which he often bragged about was the Miami Heat. Eddie also loved listening to his favorite music; the blues. In 1968, Eddie moved to Flint, Michigan where he worked for Buick Motor Division until retiring in 2003.
Eddie met Valarie Collins in 1980. His pastor, Reverend Marcellus Burkett of True Light Missionary Baptist Church Flint, Michigan, officiated their exchanging of vows on April 24, 1981. Eddie and Val lived in Flint, Michigan until moving to Southaven, Mississippi in 2005.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, six (6) sisters, Martha Jane Darrough, Jamie Watts, Nancy Harris, Flossie Smith, Bernice Love and Louse Dean. Eight (8) brothers, John Archie Darrough, Willie Jewel Darrough, Billy Louis Darrough, Leon Darrough, Otis Darrough, Curtis Darrough, Edward Darrough, and Roosevelt Darrough.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife and soulmate who took care of him until his passing, Valerie Darrough, five (5) children: Jason Darrough of Southaven, Mississippi; Tracie Darrough, of Euless, Texas, Cheryl Darrough, Eddie Darrough Jr, Annessa Byrom all of Flint Michigan. Two (2) brothers: Freddie (Jessie) Darrough of Flint, MI, and Joe (Alberta) Williams of Flint, MI., twelve (12) grandchildren: Selika Darrough, Juanell Darrough, Quintee Cook, Marcus Pace, Shaqadra Williams, Temperance Baker, Dequan Darrough, Angel Isom, Deangelo Isom, Tra’Shawn Hudson, Delano Richardson and Shanyia Richardson and fourteen (14) great-grandchildren. Eddie will also be forever remembered by his brother and sister-in-law’s, Barnett Love, of Flint MI, Ray & Frances Flewellen, of Freehold, NJ, Eugene & Connie Collins, James & Carolyn Moore, all of Mobile, AL, Anthony & Shannon Collins, of Texas, Coy & Tina Bridges of Hinesville, GA and Hubert Collins of Dougsville, GA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
