Obituaries
April Denise Parham was born March 13, 1981 to Sheila and James Parham, I. She was the last of three and the only girl born from the union. She departed this life on August 22, 2018 at St Francis Hospital, in Memphis, TN.
April accepted Christ at an early age at Hurts Chapel C.M.E Church in Olive Branch, MS. She later joined New Direction Christian Church of Memphis, TN for worship and she served as a Sunday school teacher for several years.
April was a part of the Kirby High School graduate class of 1999. She furthered her education at Arkansas State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. Immediately following undergraduate school, she decided to continue her education at Middle Tennessee State University. She received her Master of Science Degree. April worked as a certified Athletic Trainer for several years before she realizing that she had a passion to impact the community through educating the youth. April then attended the University of Memphis where she received her second Master’s degree in Elementary Education.
April was an exceptional teacher for Shelby County School System. She served ten years as a kindergarten teacher at Hickory Ridge Elementary. During her career she became an “Irreplaceable” teacher in which only a small percentage of the top teachers were selected to have their pictures displayed on bill boards across the city. She participated in the St Jude Marathon for nine years running full and half marathons. For several years she was a St Jude Hero. April traveled across the United States and made several international trips. She went on a mission trip to Africa, backpacked across Western and Eastern Europe, and visited several monumental landmarks along the way. She was a genuine, dedicated, straight forward, honest, and intelligent person. She was a very disciplined individual and was able to accomplish any task set before her. She lived her life to the fullest.
April was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend and God-Mother. Precious memories will live on through her parents Sheila S. Parham and James E. Parham, I (Patricia); two brothers, Dale Parham and James Parham, II (Menecca), one half- sister, two step-brothers, and two God Children. She leaves her paternal grandmother, Ginnie Matlock, a special aunt, Helen Bryant, and her furry baby Maya Parham. She leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
