Obituaries
Altha Lee Taylor was born on April 18th, 1941 in Helena, Arkansas, to Mr. Wardell Mayweather and Mrs. Viola Mayweather. She attended school in Arkansas and while raising her children, decided to undertake the great task of earning her high school diploma. As a young woman with a beautiful voice, she sang with the gospel group, “The Margarettes”. She honorably served her community as an employee of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, serving faithfully as a Deputy Jailer until her well-earned retirement. She was also the successful owner of her own business, when she obtained her license as a cosmetologist.
She married Gannes Taylor and to this union, she was blessed to become the beloved mother of four beautiful children, Patricia, Mary, Garland, and Dennis. After a brief illness, she was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on January 23, 2016 to walk forevermore in His presence. She will be missed dearly by her children, Patricia, Mary, Garland, and Dennis (Charlene), and grandchildren, Latasha, Tiffany, Jonathan, Domonique, and Adreana. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Terry. She also leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Gloria Graham Wilson and brother, Isaiah Mayweather, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will all miss her kind and loving spirit.
