Obituaries
A.C. Abston was born February 3, 1939 to John Abston and Annie Mae Edwards in Hernando, MS.
Hernando, MS was also the place of his school, church and home for many years.
Mr. Abston shared nearly 55 years of love and devotion with wife, Olethia Jean Abston. He was the proud father of 11 children.
AC Abston was a skilled welder and farmer. In addition to being an amazing cook and baker, he enjoyed outdoor activities and prided himself in gardening. Greens, beans, tomatoes, you name it; he grew fresh vegetables for everyone. At 79yrs old, he still tended his own garden.
He spent his life teaching those around him; sharing nuggets of wisdom and always giving others a reason to laugh. He was a natural and undiscovered comedian hidden in overalls. Whether he was reprimanding a child, voicing an opinion, teaching a life lesson or training someone to do a task, Mr. Abston’s unique and funny way of saying and doing things, left his loved ones with a chuckle or a belly roll laugh. He was very creative and developed his own language, for example no-carish (not caring or concerned), biggun (very large or big), Katie bar the gate (it’s over).
A.C. Abston loved the Lord. He judged God faithful amidst years of sickness, as he witnessed God’s strength being made perfect in his life. He often bragged that he had one God and 2 pastors, Apostle Benjamin Smith of Miracle Temple and Bishop Kevin B. Willis of New Life of Memphis. He especially delighted in the preaching ministry of Pastor Linda K. Willis. His Christian faith guided his life and brought him joy and peace until the day of his departure, April 28, 2018.
Mr. A.C. Abston was preceded in death by his parents, John Abston and Annie Mae Edwards; brothers, Terry C. Edwards and Willie Perry and sister, Leora Swiller
He leaves to forever cherish his memory, dear wife Olethia Jean Abston; 11 children: Juanita Carter, Karen Abston Hoof, Vince Abston, Renee Abston Carpenter, Darin Abston, Angela Abston Tuggle, Doris Abston, Victoria Abston Jackson (Elijah). Neal Abston (Davita), Ulysses Abston and Dewaun Abston; 35 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; stepmother Mildred Abston; 4 brothers: L.C. Edwards, Alvin Abston, Kenneth Abston and Timothy Abston; 8 sisters: Rosie B. Wright, Bessie Cobb, Minnie Harris, Linda Sullivan, Carolyn Gipson, Arterice Perry, Evon Perry and Stephanie Novell; 1 aunt Fannie Mae Abston and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
